Julia Holt

Julia Holt completed a BA in Fine Art in 2015 and an MA in Fine Art with distinction in 2022. A painter and printmaker who also writes poetry, she retells stories, combining the atmosphere of the narrative with the psychology of the people involved. Her paintings are full of expressive textural mark-making and adhere to a colour palette that is dictated by the artists’ emotional reaction to the events being defined.

Thick oil paint is used as a way to express the sentiment conveyed, and colour always plays a large part in influencing each set of work, which, combined with gestural mark-making, takes the viewer through the emotional storyline.
Often using poetry as an influence in printmaking, the artist discovers new realms in which she formulates an ever-increasing oeuvre of work.

Interpreting the narrative in this way has meant that there are innumerable avenues which the artist can take regarding her artwork:
“Being able to express myself through painting, drawing and poetry is truly wonderful and gives me a great sense of fulfilment. I only hope that I manage to put this across in my work and that other people can gain some pleasure and enjoyment from the artworks I have produced.”
